The Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), an industry leader in providing supportive housing for vulnerable populations, saw an opportunity to scale its impact through geographic expansion, new programs, and a broader definition of its served population. To achieve its ambitious strategic goals, CSH recognized that it would need to strengthen and redesign the organization, as well as recruit, retain and develop staff. This case study, written by Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy, describes how the Kresge Foundation helped CSH address these talent and organizational challenges by supporting its work with the consulting firm AchieveMission to create and implement a three-year human capital management plan. This case study will be of value to foundations considering how best to support leadership development and capacity building, and to nonprofits that seek to scale their impact and need to develop their human capital management capabilities to do so.
